106k miles with a $ 17.5k ask. Seller has no idea about IMS status.
Worthwhile risk or is this a grenade with the pin pulled?

CP
Salvage title is only worth about half as much as the clean equivalent
10k max

Salvage title because of ... ?
Otherwise a NP, it’s a cheap entry ticket to 911 ownership, even with a preventative IMS surgery.
I used to have a Boxster of the same generation, and sold it closeto 100k miles with no IMS or any major other issue, super strong vehicle and very well built.
I know, the internet crowd will say “ermagerd, fried eggs” because they read it somewhere ... I like this style, to each their own.

ragtop, salvage title, 996....PASSSSSSSSSS

That’s pretty cp. That’s not far off what a clean one of sells for with a lot of service history that doesn’t have a salvage title AND has the IMS addressed.

I don’t get the hate for the headlights; it’s still a 911 Cab.

CP. That’s the right price for a clean title coupe, not a salvage cab (and I generally think people are way too pessimistic on 996 prices) . You can find cars with full services histories and owners who know what they’re talking about for that price.
Speaking from experience, i t’s a $15k mistake if you miss on the engine with one of these; you don’t want to miss, especially when the same money or just a bit more gets you a much better car.

Pretty next to other cars just not next to other 911's in my not so humble opinion . I’m also anti convertible as the experience is always watered down. I love my M3, but I’d love it more if it was a coupe.

I was quoted 23k for that engine mistake during a PPI on a 997. (re manufactured 3.8L installed)

Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of the 911 cab; that car just looked better to me as a coupe.

Holy ratballs. Wth makes those engines so ‘spensive? Are they built by Black Forest elves?

Salvage title, no idea if a repair has been done that would prevent catastrophic failure? Both of these alone means he’s asking too much.
Can they tell during a PPI if the IMS is already done? If so it might be worth throwing an offer. If not my offer would be low enough that he’d probably be insulted.

I’d imagine at least 4-5k was labor there. Still fancy car fancy engine. Even a rebuilt S54 will go 10k or more.

$15k-$17k woul d get you that car with a clean title and maybe even lower miles.
But $17.5k with a salvage title and a seller who is clueless on the car's maintenance history? CRACK... PIPE!

Not from what I’m seeing online. $25k is the entry point for an ‘05 Carrera cab.

CP all damn day for sure.

For that kind of money you could get a 987 Boxster S that isn’t a salvage, with lower miles, has nearly the same power, a better interior, handles better, is more practical, and avoids the IMS issue all together.

Salvage title kills it. I love my 2001 996 cab, but I p aid $15k for it with 50k miles on it and a new rear main seal already done. Had to do the alternator and water pump since and that’s it outside normal wear and tear stuff.
Really a great value, if prices really have gone this high I’d be shocked.
